A leading experiences platform, modernised to run inside a multi-brand ecosystem

Experience Oz is one of Australia's leading online travel and experiences platforms. After its acquisition by the Big Red Group, Experitech was engaged as the embedded engineering partner to modernise the stack, standardise the architecture, migrate the payment gateway and rebuild the B2B platform; bringing existing familiarity with the platform that meant no time was lost getting up to speed.

Experience Oz
"Experitech embedded themselves with the team and helped us establish a standardised architecture that became the foundation everything else was built on."

Project Overview

The Brief

Experience Oz is one of Australia's leading online travel and experiences platforms. When it was acquired by the Big Red Group, the priority was to bring the platform in line with the wider BRG ecosystem: modernising the tech stack, standardising the architecture and ensuring Experience Oz could operate as a fully integrated part of a multi-brand environment. The scope also included migrating the payment gateway from Braintree to Stripe and a full rebuild of the B2B platform. Experitech was engaged as the embedded engineering partner across all of it, and existing familiarity with the platform meant no time was lost getting up to speed.

Our Approach

Working directly alongside the Big Red Group team, Experitech was embedded across the full front end and back end upgrade of Experience Oz to a modern React.js and Next.js stack. Existing functionality was preserved throughout, so the platform kept trading while the architecture underneath it was modernised and standardised. Our team worked across the full stack, including the admin back end, and stayed part of the process from daily standups through to post-release hypercare and ongoing maintenance.

Aligned with the BRG ecosystemThe core goal was integration into a multi-brand environment. We standardised the architecture and brought the stack in line with the wider Big Red Group platform, so Experience Oz could operate as one part of a shared ecosystem rather than a system maintained in isolation.
Full-stack upgrade to React.js and Next.jsThe front end and back end were moved to a modern React.js and Next.js stack with all existing functionality preserved, replacing an ageing codebase with a current, maintainable one and no disruptive re-launch.
20+ restech integrations maintainedA key complexity was the breadth of 20+ restech integrations the back end relies on, across providers such as Ingresso, Respax and Rezdy. Each was carried through the transformation intact, keeping supplier connectivity uninterrupted.
Braintree to Stripe payment migrationThe payment gateway was migrated from Braintree to Stripe with existing fraud rules, cancellation automations and refund logic fully preserved, so transaction handling was unaffected during and after the switch.
B2B platform rebuildIn parallel, the B2B platform was rebuilt with a headless cart and a multi-tenant agent architecture, giving the business a scalable foundation for managing trade and agent bookings across the ecosystem.
